Serge Toussaint has served as the Grand Master of the French Language Jurisdiction of AMORC and of the Traditional Martinist Order since 1993. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Supreme Grand Lodge of AMORC.

Born in Normandy on August 3, 1956, Frater Toussaint discovered the Rosicrucian Order in 1977, when he was a young teacher. Respectively, Master of the Zanoni Lodge in 1981 and 1988, he was also Master of Kether Heptad of Le Neubourg in 1987. He began his work with the Grand Lodge in 1984 and was installed in the office of Grand Master on May 30, 1993.

Dedicated to the Service of AMORC and of the TMO, Frater Toussaint is the author of three books regarding the Rosicrucian Order; the ontology and ethics of the Rosy-Cross. He appreciates spending time in nature. Much concerned with ecology, he is also a keen defender of animals.

Discourse
My discourse examines ways of communing with the Cosmic so as to derive its greatest beneficial effects on all planes of our being. To begin with, let me define the word Cosmic as being the laws God instituted at the beginning of time when God implemented Creation by means of the Word. Since these laws are the image of their source, they are perfect, immutable, and impersonal. More generally, we can say that the Cosmic is God in motion and in action in the visible and invisible worlds.

In his book Pensées (“Thoughts”), Blaise Pascal wrote that “Men are religious animals,” meaning that humans have souls that unite them with the Divine. From this we can extrapolate that humans have felt the desire to be united with God, or the Cosmic, from the very beginning, and thus religions and philosophies—all with this goal in mind—have existed since humans first appeared on earth. But religions serve only as intercessors between God and humans. God, as a universal and impersonal Intelligence, is the entity that humans need to contact. This is precisely what Rosicrucians do when they attune with the Cosmic in order to receive its help, inspiration, and protection. As Rosicrucians we use four methods for cosmic contact: vowel sounds, meditation, prayer, and spiritual attunement.

Being Rosicrucians, we know that vowel sounds are a very powerful and important means for contacting the Cosmic because their intonation puts us in resonance with the divine laws. Meditation and prayer are also effective ways of achieving cosmic contact, as long as we follow the correct techniques in order to truly make contact with the higher Intelligence. We can also contact the Cosmic by simply allowing ourselves to go into a spiritual communion with the Cosmic and experience all its associated positive and marvelous effects as explained in our teachings.

All spiritual communion—every conscious union with the Cosmic—results in positive effects, but what are those effects? We will recall that humans are threefold beings; we each have a physical, psychic, and spiritual body, known as Soul in our Order’s teachings.

On the physical plane, spiritual communion results in a feeling of being purified and regenerated. For example, when we are ill, this contact can heal us or at least relieve us of suffering because it puts us in harmony with the healing forces of the universe, thereby automatically contributing to our health and well-being.

On the psychic plane, every contact with the Cosmic stimulates our psychic body in three different ways: it acts as the vehicle for the entry of positive energy into all the cells of our physical body; it facilitates the exchange of vibrations between our cerebrospinal and autonomic nervous systems; and it aids our psychic perception. This faculty is very important to mystics since it helps us perceive psychic phenomena that leave no impression on our physical senses.

On the spiritual plane the effects produced by spiritual communion are naturally linked with our soul. This results in a wonderful sense of Peace Profound. We then feel detached from the material world, to such an extent that we are no longer aware of our own body, nor of time or space. Dwelling in this state, even for a short time, is a great source of inspiration and wonder. In fact, it constitutes a cosmic initiation.

In conclusion, let us thus be fully aware of the benefits and methods of cosmic contact, and make Cosmic Union the basis of our Rosicrucian quest.
