The Convocation discourse is entitled "Hatshepsut: Queen of Egypt and Pharaoh." This remarkable monarch was the longest living female ruler (1479 - 1458 BCE) of ancient Egypt during the 18th Dynasty and step-mother of Thutmose III. Her elegant and beautiful structure at Deir el-Bahri, designed by Senenmut, Hatshepsut's chief architect, also a woman, was commissioned as both a mortuary and temple. It was the most magnificent structure of its kind up to that period. This temple's design emphasizes the principle of ma'at (harmony, balance, and truth). Hatshepsut's reign was marked by economic prosperity, public works, and peace.

The social period following is open to all. Refreshments available.
