Unto Thee I Grant - Book One

Hamilton Pronaos members-only online discussion.

Book One:

• Teaches that 'Becoming' is disciplined formation of character rather than mystical ecstasy:

o Govern yourself before aspiring to govern circumstance.

o Align conduct with universal moral law.

o Accept responsibility for your own ascent.

o Build strength quietly, steadily, inwardly.

The Strange Story of This Book

• Between 1740–1750, an English scholar in China learned of ancient mystical manuscripts preserved in Tibetan temple archives.

• At the Emperor’s request, the learned minister Cao-Tsou examined these texts and discovered what was described as a “complete system of mystical instruction.”

• The manuscript, written in an ancient language associated with Brahmin or Gymnosophist sages, was translated into Chinese by Cao-Tsou.

• The English scholar later translated it into English and sent it to the Earl of Derby.

• The Earl authorized only limited copies, which were circulated among leaders of European mystical and initiatory orders.

• One preserved copy became foundational within a mystical Brotherhood.

• When the original manuscript deteriorated, permission was granted in 1925 for its publication without alteration.

• Tibetan tradition attributed the work to sages such as Confucius, Lao-Tzu, or an ancient Brahmin.

• The publishers instead proposed that the text may originate from Amenhotep IV - Akhenaten, the Egyptian Pharaoh, c. 1360–1350 BCE.
