“Michelangelo’s Piazza del Campidoglio” David M. Aguilera, FRC, PhD, ABPP, from the “Mystical Italy” issue of the Rosicrucian Digest

Michelangelo’s magnificent design for the Piazza del Campidoglio on Rome’s Capitoline Hill was only completed in the 1940s. Its stately curvilinear lines with twelve points suggest the astrological influence of Marsilio Ficino, among other references. In this podcast, Dr. Aguilera introduces us to how this Pizza functions in the life of the Eternal City, and what it reflects of its designer, Michelangelo.

Rosicrucian Initiatic Journeys to Egypt

Rosicrucian initiatic journeys to Egypt began in 1929 with Imperator H. Spencer Lewis
leading the first group. These extraordinary pilgrimages continue until today. Seventy-five
Rosicrucians from throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe accompanied
H. Spencer Lewis on that first initiatic journey. The principal destination was Egypt, however
on the way to and from that mystic land, the travelers visited mystical sites in the Madeira
Islands, the Mediterranean, North Africa, the Holy Land, and Europe. As this was in the
days before regular transatlantic air service, the journey lasted seventy days. It concluded on
the Spring Equinox.

This trip was especially tailored for Rosicrucians. As is the case today, the travelers were treated
to unique experiences and unusual sites normally passed over by the casual tourist of the day.
At every site, in every city, members learned about cultural and mystical aspects related to the
site generally unknown to the ordinary traveler. Of course the most special features of this trip
were the unique initiations conducted by Imperator Lewis. This tradition continues today
with Imperator Christian Bernard conferring the initiatic rituals in Egypt.

The entire 1929 tour was chronicled in eleven consecutive issues of The Mystic Triangle
magazine (the predecessor to today’s Rosicrucian Digest), from February through December
1929. We present below an excerpt from the original series.

Archaelogical Indications on the Origins of Roman Mithraism — Lewis M. Hopfe, Ph.D.

This podcast features an article from the December 2010 Mithraic Mysteries issue of the Rosicrucian Digest. Between the end of the first century CE and the last part of the fourth century, a mystery religion called Mithraism was extremely popular among soldiers, merchants, and civil administrators in the Roman Empire. Today more than four hundred locations of Mithraic worship have been identified in every area of the Roman Empire. Between the second and fourth centuries CE, Mithraism may have vied with Christianity for domination of the Roman world.

Selections from a Mithraic Ritual — G. R. S. Mead

This podcast features an article from the December 2010 Mithraic Mysteries issue of the Rosicrucian Digest. One of the pioneering esoteric scholars of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, G.R.S. Mead (1863–1933) brought wider attention to many ancient materials, including this ritual which some scholars dismiss, and others cautiously believe retains some Mithraic elements.

The Rise and Fall of the Mithraic Mysteries — V. L. Stephens, S.R.C., M.A.

This podcast features an article from the December 2010 Mithraic Mysteries issue of the Rosicrucian Digest. Who was Mithras and what are the Mithraic Mysteries? There was little written about the Mithraic Mysteries. It is only through the inferences drawn from the cave or cave-like Mithraea, the generally present Tauroctony scene and other images, the initiation titles, and the dedicatory stelai erected by primary participants, that we can make any conclusions about the content of the Mysteries. The author provides an overview and introduction to the Mithraic Mysteries.
